Where would you go in time if you could change anything in your life. How would you change your world around you?
These questions came to mind as I was watching a cute movie entitled About Time. Please beware that it is rated R and inappropriate for young kids. That being said the movie plays with the idea of time travel in a fresh new way. The protagonist of the movie gets his special powers at the ripe age of twenty-one. He’s unable to affect major historic events such as the Lincoln assassination or stop a terrorist from being born. Interestingly, he’s only able to go back in time and change moments of his own life. No spoilers, but the main message of the movie is a simple one. Enjoy each day and make the most of every moment.
Did you ever regret words left unspoken? Or would you change an action now that you know the result of that choice? Many of us would answer with a resounding yes to each of those questions. But mistakes are part of life. We learn from our good and bad choices. They become part of our DNA. Our personality is often shaped by our life experiences. Life was not meant to be lived perfectly. It was simply meant to be lived.
I’ve developed the philosophy of living without regrets. When the moment comes, I express how I’m feeling. I own each decision, despite the outcome. Hindsight will always be 20/20 vision. But the error in that statement is we can’t move forward constantly looking behind us. Honestly, I don’t believe in having regrets. There’s a lesson to be learned in every misstep. In the grand scheme of our life, it could be the very thing that leads us down the way we were meant to tread.
So, enjoy every moment. Say how you feel. Tell those you care about that you love them. Live on purpose. Have no regrets. 😊
