Before You Were Born

With all that’s going on, many are wondering what the future holds for them. Maybe you’ve procrastinated on dreams feeling like you had all the time in the world. Or you could be in a difficult season as a result of bad choices feeling like there’s no way God could use you now. There are a ton of ways that you could have reached the point of hopelessness. In essence, you feel like it’s too late. I’ve been reading the book entitled “Crash the Chatterbox” by Steven Furtick. This lie of “not being good enough to be used by God” was brought up in chapter two. Imagine my chills when I read something similar that night in the book of Galatians. Hopefully, in sharing this revelation with you, these lies can be debunked once and for all.

In the book, Pastor Furtick discussed the prophet Jeremiah and how God chose him before he was born (see reference below). Now, I want to look at the Apostle Paul’s life. Paul calls himself the chief of all sinners. Let’s be honest, this guy was not lying. In the name of religion, zeal led him to persecute Christians. His actions caused the imprisonment and even death of many believers. How could God use someone like him? One fascinating point is that God chose him before he was born. God knows the end from the beginning. He knew that Paul would mess up yet He still chose him. His past didn’t disqualify him, rather it became part of his testimony. After Paul received a revelation of Jesus, he understood his calling. Though some of the believers doubted him, Paul took solace in knowing he was chosen by God. In spite of Paul's actions, God desired to display His redeeming power through Paul to the Gentiles.

Surely, we all have things in our lives that we consider disqualifiers. Personally, I’ve mismanaged time and discounted my gifts. Yet, God saw something in me BEFORE I was even born! The same is true for you too. The crazier thing is God also saw all the mistakes that we’d make along the way. He knew you’d go when He said stay. He knew that you’d try every option and fail before surrendering it over to Him. He knew the pandemic would halt your career aspirations forcing you to seek His will. Yet, He still chose us. There is power in the realization of being chosen. When the devil or doubt arises to convince you otherwise, you can rest in this fact. In addition, God equips those He has chosen. He will not leave you ill-prepared. Jeremiah tried this excuse. His disqualifier was his age. But God promised to be with him and give him the right words.

So, what is your disqualifier? Is it your age whether too young or too old? Are you a procrastinor feeling like the season passed by? Just know that you were chosen by God before you were born for such a time as this. He knows the end from the beginning. He is able to redeem any poor choice or misstep for His glory. Allow yourself to be secure in who He’s called you to be.

Be encouraged! :)

Scripture References: Galatians 1:14-16 (NLT) “I was far ahead of my fellow Jews in my zeal for the traditions of my ancestors. But even before I was born, God chose me and called me by his marvelous grace. Then it pleased him to reveal his Son to me so that I would proclaim the Good News about Jesus to the Gentiles. When this happened, I did not rush out to consult with any human being.”

Jeremiah 1:4-8 (NLT) “The Lord gave me this message: I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations. O Sovereign Lord, I said, I can’t speak for you! I’m too young! The Lord replied, Don’t say, I’m too young, for you must go wherever I send you and say whatever I tell you. And don’t be afraid of the people, for I will be with you and will protect you. I, the Lord, have spoken!”
