It’s amazing how inspiration can come from anywhere. Over the weekend, I watched a movie entitled “Baby Driver”. The movie is a complex tale of a getaway driver with an interesting handicap. The main character also possesses some weird habits which caused me to ponder a question. Now, be advised that this movie is rated R for violence and mild language. For the most part, it’s relatively clean. So, bear with me as I present this analogy to you.
The main character’s name is Baby. He was involved in a tragic car accident at a young age which resulted in some hearing damage. Baby has constant ringing in his ears, a condition known as tinnitus. In order to preserve his sanity, Baby wears headphones blasting music throughout the day. There are numerous moments when he seems oblivious to the world around him. He bumps into people on the street. He narrowly escapes being hit by cars. Baby is in his own little world engulfed by the melodies on his Ipod. There are even moments when other characters are speaking to him, yet he stares off as though a word is not even spoken. Each time they question him: did you hear what I just said? At which time, Baby is jarred back to reality.
So, my question for you is this: can you hear them? Who am I referring to? I’m referencing the cry of those living without the hope of Christ. We can all attest that the current state of our world is atrocious. To be honest, people were hurting way before this year. The global pandemic, an economic crash, and racial injustice only increased our awareness of the pain that many suffer daily. But, do we truly hear them? What background music has been keeping the church in la-la land all this time? The devil loves to distract us. It’s one of his greatest tactics. He concerns us with the temporal things of this life. We obsess about getting married, having kids, and playing house. We scroll on our phones and compare our lives to those of celebrities. We go to church every Sunday and pay tithes thereby checking off the “good Christian” box. But, can we hear them?
Now, please hear my heart. My intent is not to condemn in anyway. In all honesty, I was lulled into my own incognizance. I was consumed with reaching career goals, meeting the right person, and creating an amazing life for myself. This post serves as a challenge for you and me. How can we live differently? The Bible says that the earth is groaning. People are searching for the Answer and we have it within us. But how will they know if we don’t tell them? I believe God is awakening His church. The current state of our world is setting the stage for a revival unlike any other. Will you be apart of bringing people to Christ? Or will you remain oblivious to a hurting world around you?
Be encouraged! 😊

Scripture Reference: Romans 8:18-19 (ASV) “For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed to us-ward. For the earnest expectation of the creation waiteth for the revealing of the sons of God.”
Jeremiah 12:4, 11 (NLT) “How long must this land mourn? Even the grass in the fields has withered. The wild animals and birds have disappeared because of the evil in the land. For the people have said, The Lord doesn’t see what’s ahead for us… They have made it an empty wasteland; I hear its mournful cry. The whole land is desolate, and no one even cares.”
