Dreamer in Training

So, what do you do when your dreams are put on hold? This question is not meant to suggest that you’re being inactive. Maybe you are working hard day and night yet not seeing any results. Maybe you’ve done all that you know to advance your dream? You feel like you’re in a season of waiting. The story of Joseph is a Biblical example of someone who’s dreams took years to manifest. Let’s look at his journey to becoming second in command to Pharaoh.

As a young teenager, Joseph had dreams of his family bowing down in reverence to him. Surely, these were proof that someday he’d be a man of great power. Then one day, everything changed when his brothers sold him into slavery. Talk about a step in the wrong direction. But God gave him favor. He was promoted in Potiphar’s house and given charge of all he owned. I believe God used this time to train Joseph in management. He proved himself faithful in the small. Potiphar didn’t worry about his estate for he completely trusted Joseph. All seemed to be going well for Joseph. Surely, this would be the avenue that God would use to promote him. But alas, he was hit with another curveball. Potiphar’s wife falsely accused him of trying to take advantage of her. We can assume that Potiphar probably didn’t believe his wife’s accusation. Such a crime would have been punishable by death. Maybe Potiphar was extending mercy or maybe God was protecting Joseph. At any rate, Joseph was sentenced to prison. Surely, his heart sunk for his dream was still out of reach. Even at his lowest point, God was still with him. Joseph was given favor in the prison and placed in charge of the other prisoners. He received more management training. When the time came, God elevated him to second in command to Pharaoh with an impeccable resume.

Take heart dear friend! Maybe your waiting season is your training season. God may be working out pride or instilling patience in your heart. God has great plans for your life, but He will not give you more than you can handle. He molds and shapes us into the person He wants us to become. As we prove ourselves faithful in the small things, He will entrust us with the big. So, don’t get discouraged if it seems like your dreams are on hold. Just know that God is working out all things for your good.

Be encouraged! 😊

Scripture References: Genesis 39:1-5 (NLT) “Now Joseph had been taken down to Egypt. And Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him from the Ishmaelites who had taken him down there. The Lord was with Joseph, and he was a successful man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian. And his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord made all he did to prosper in his hand. So, Joseph found favor in his sight, and served him. Then he made him overseer of his house, and all that he had he put under his authority. So it was, from the time that he had made him overseer of his house and all that he had, that the Lord blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake; and the blessing of the Lord was on all that he had in the house and in the field."

Genesis 39:20-21 (NLT) “Then Joseph’s master took him and put him into the prison, a place where the king’s prisoners were confined. And he was there in the prison. But the Lord was with Joseph and showed him mercy, and He gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison.”
