Everything You Need

During this holiday weekend, I got the chance to see the new Star Wars movie entitled The Rise of Skywalker. Don’t worry. There won’t be any spoilers in this article. I also will refrain from commenting on my thoughts about the movie. I’ll let you formulate your own opinions. Amidst this action pack film, there was a specific quote that stood out to me. I wanted to take a moment and discuss it in this post.

In some action movies, there comes a point were evil seems like its prevailing. Our heroine, Rey, out of desperation returns to the Jedi Island. Out of options, she settles on an outrageous plan. As she is getting ready to commence, she is visited by a stranger who encourages her. He says a simple phrase so powerful that it resonates through the screen. “You already have everything that you need,” he said. At that moment, her eyes became open. Her defeated spirit filled with hope as she saw the very tool needed to fix the situation. To her surprise, it was there all along. With a newfound hope, she rides off to defeat the villain for the last time. Now, I know that was a very cryptic description of the scene. My goal was to avoid any spoilers. However, the main message rings clear. “You already have everything that you need.

Over the past few days, I’ve been reflecting over the year. There are things that I’ve accomplished by the grace of God. On the other hand, there are things that I’ve not even started due to excuses. I felt that I lacked the tools necessary. I was hyper focused on the impossibility that I responded with inactivity. While stressing over all the unmet goals, this phrase came to mind. “You already have everything you need”. The sweet whisper of the Holy Spirit was reminding of this simple truth. God has placed these desires in my heart, and He has fully equipped me to see them through.

So, as we enter into another year I want to encourage you. Don’t look at the things that you don’t possess. Refuse to concentrate on the circumstances. Instead, focus on God. He has given you all the gifts and skills needed to complete His plans for you. Trust that He’ll open the right doors and bring the right people across your path. When things get rough don’t lose sight of who you are in Christ. “You already have everything that you need.”

I encourage you as I encourage myself. 😊
