Go With the Strength You Have

There is so much going on in the world today. Some of us maybe feeling overwhelmed with everything. We may feel tired and hopeless. Instead of focusing on the things around us, let’s look to God. He will strengthen us. But, what if you’re still afraid and discouraged? In this post, we’ll look at the story of Gideon and how he found courage in God.


The Midianites were besieging the children of Israel for seven years. The Bible says they would wait in the hills for the Israelites to harvest their food, and swoop in stealing it away. One day, Gideon was cowardly hiding wheat when the Lord appeared unto. He called Gideon a “mighty hero”. This is so amazing. God spoke Gideon’s true nature into existence. Sadly, he saw himself as the weakest of the tribe of Israel and the least member of his own family. I love how God encouraged him in this moment. He said, “Go with the strength you have…I am sending you”. As the story continues, Gideon still had doubt. The Bible says that “the angel of the Lord” appeared unto Gideon. During this divine encounter, the Lord received the offering from Gideon. The spirit of the Lord came upon Gideon, and he bravely tore down the altars of Baal. With his newfound courage, he asked for a sign of confirmation that God would use him to defeat the Midianites. God graciously provided him with two signs. Then, Gideon led the Israelites into battle with only three hundred people. The Lord fought for them.


After reading this, the phrase “go with the strength you have” kept resonating with me. I believe the Lord is calling us out in these last days. He desires that we step up and be the church. “But I’m still afraid,” you say. What can one voice matter? Don’t stop praying or believing. Continue in faith with the strength you have. God wants us to reach out to our hurting world with the good news of Jesus. Our prayers can make a difference. Don’t let weariness or fear stop you. We have the answer that the world so desperately needs.

15 “But Lord,” Gideon replied, “how can I rescue Israel? My clan is the weakest in the whole tribe of Manasseh, and I am the least in my entire family!”

16 The Lord said to him, “I will be with you. And you will destroy the Midianites as if you were fighting against one man.”
