In Hiding

Do you feel like you are stuck in a wilderness season? Have you ever felt like life is passing you by? In a world consumed with appearances, it is very easy to fall prey to comparison. Lives of friends and family displaying blissful snapshots of perfection on social media. If we are not careful, then this can cause us to feel discontentment. But what if there’s something else that’s causing this unsettling emotion. Could it be that there’s a dream on your heart dying to be birthed forth? In either case, you feel forced to play the waiting game.

Personally, I can relate to this feeling. There is so much that God has placed on my heart. By profession, I’m a physician assistant. I truly enjoy treating patients and educating them into healthier lifestyles. However, that is only a small part of what I feel God has called me. He’s given me ideas for new books and business ventures. There are ministries that I’m eager to be a part of. The biggest question on my mind is “When?” It’s like I’m on the verge of something great, but it hasn’t happened yet.

One analogy comes to mind when I think of this. Imagine looking forward to a trip as a kid. Let’s pretend that your parents are taking you to Busch Gardens at the end of summer. All summer long you anticipate the trip. You imagine what it would be like to visit each country represented at the park. Using the map online, you pick out the best rides in the closest proximity to decrease on walking. Eagerly, you await the day until you get to go on this amazing adventure. After what feels like forever, the day arrives! Excitement has reached its peak as your family begins the long car ride up north to the park. Since you’re around eight years old, a few hours in a car can seem like forever. Even though you know you’re headed in the right direction towards the long-awaited quest, you become antsy. Every parent knows what question comes next, “Are we there yet?”

This is where I find myself today. “God, is it time yet?” I am constantly asking Him what’s the next move. God has been reminding me that there is preparation in the season of waiting. He is such a loving Father. Out of His love and kindness, He never gives us something or asks us to do a task that we are ill-prepared. He’s working behind the scenes, even when it feels like nothing is happening. I’m learning that I must stay face deep in His Word and knee bent in prayer. By moving closer to Him in this season, I’m being molded into who He wants me to be. Then I’ll be ready when He says, “Okay, go!”

Be encouraged! 😊
