Lessons During Pandemic: God is a Healer AND a Protector

Each of us are experiencing different trials in this season. As we go through, it is important to note what is learned along the way. God has downloaded so much within me. My prayer is that I’ll be more mature and stronger in my faith once I come out on the other side. Over the next few weeks, I’ll take you through some of these lessons. Maybe we can grow together.

Since March, I’ve been seeing God as a Protector. I read Psalms 91 every morning before work sealing the verses in my mind. Even though I still practiced precautions, trust grew within me in new ways. I always knew God was a Protector, but now I had to stand on that belief. As a physician assistant, I’m constantly faced with sickness and disease. I reminded myself that God protected me then and that He’ll do so now. My safety measures were no longer laced with obsessive anxiety over the number of times my hands were washed or the cleanliness of my work desk.

Then, it happened. Someone close to me got sick. Their body exhibited symptoms that were contrary to the promise of healing. In all honesty, my first response was that of anger. After all, we were doing everything instructed by the medical experts. Wash your hands, don’t touch your face, and wear your mask. On top of these basic safety measures, we also stood on the promise of God’s word. So, why did they get sick? Then I was gently reminded by the Holy Spirit that God is also a Healer. Seemingly a trivial revelation, it made all the difference and my heart posture changed directions. I joined others in prayer for this person’s complete healing. Within a couple of days, the symptoms were eradicated and no evidence of the virus found in their body. It was as if they had a cold.

Sometimes, we compartmentalize God. We set limits on what He can do based on past experiences. Other times, the devil tricks us into thinking our problem is too big for God. He can heal us of a headache but this virus is on another level. The angels can only protect us if we stay six feet apart. These are all lies. Our God is more powerful than we can even fathom. He loves revealing Himself to us in our daily lives. His arm is not short. Just as He promises to guard us like a shield, God can heal us from ANY sickness that tries to attack our bodies. There is nothing too hard for Him. So, do you have God in a box? Do you organize your problems only submitting to Him the ones you think He can handle? I challenge you to ask yourself how you see God. He is Jehovah Rapha, the God who heals.

Be encouraged! 😊

Scriptures References: Psalms 41:2-3 (NLT) “The Lord protects them and keeps them alive. He gives them prosperity in the land and rescues them from their enemies. The Lord nurses them when they are sick and restores them to health.”

James 5:14-15 (NLT) “Are any of you sick? You should call for the elders of the church to come and pray over you, anointing you with oil in the name of the Lord. Such a prayer offered in faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will make you well. And if you have committed any sins, you will be forgiven.”
