Psalms 138, Selah

So, this week I’ve been meditating on the 138th chapter of Psalms. The words literally jumped off the page as my eyes skimmed across. There’s many powerful nuggets of encouragement. In reading this chapter each day, the truths were ingrained in my spirit. Let’s dive into some of the key points.

The chapter opens with praise and thanksgiving to God for His unfailing love and faithfulness. It then goes on to say, “your promises are backed by all the honor of your name”. What is the gravity of that statement? For starters, there is none like God. He is holy and righteous. There is no name higher or more powerful than the name of Jesus. That name is the foundation of every promise found in the Word. What more assurance do you need? This reminder couldn’t have come at a more opportune time. Discouragement crept in as I waited on the promises God has given me. Sometimes, the time lapse can weaken faith. Does God know how long it’s been? You see others receiving their answer. Did He forget about me? This scripture assures that God can NOT break His promise. When doubts flood our minds, we can remember this truth.

Psalms 138 also reminds us of God’s closeness. He hears every prayer. In fact, He moves to comfort you as soon as you pray. Every tear you cry is tenderly saved in a bottle. The last year was full of difficulty. Though things have lessened, there is still a lot of uncertainty causing fear. Yet, when life gets hard, we can take every worry to God. He is never far away. He walks with us through every storm. We can take comfort in knowing that nothing can stand against Him.

There is one final nugget resonating with me. God will complete His plans for you. This reigns true no matter what is happening or NOT happening in your life. Believe that God is working all things out for your good. He will never leave or forsake you. In fact, He’s cheering you on. So, don’t worry. Don’t let your heart get downtrodden. You can rely on God’s Word.

During these last days, we need more than just a quick Sunday service. We need a lifestyle of prayer and studying the Word. As you read, ponder on what the words are truly saying. Seek out the original text or commentaries in order to gain deeper meaning. Memorize the verses. That way when discouragement comes, you can fight it with the word.

Be encouraged! :)
