Soaring Above The Wind

The other day I was driving to Fayetteville for a single’s event (Word of advice to single men: Go! The odds will be in your favor). The weather had been bad all weekend. It was raining off and on as well as heavy winds. After much thought, I decided to attend the event. The forecast called for strong winds, but the rain was supposed to hold off until later in the evening. As I drove down the highway, gusts of wind rocked my car unsteadily on the road. It became increasingly difficult to keep the vehicle straight as I picked up speed. Since becoming a driver, I’ve always hated driving in the rain especially at night. Adding heavy winds to the mix makes things even more difficult. I regretted my decision.

Usually, I can shake the anxiety that tries to arise within me. I think of all the times that God allowed me to reach my destination safely. This calms my mind and I can drive confidently onward. Unfortunately, this time I find myself driving slower than normal and even considering turning around. As I scanned the horizon for any signs of sunshine, I see a bird soaring through the air. It was an awesome sight! How effortlessly he glided through the air. He didn’t even flap his wings when the winds gust fiercely. The bird simply soared on.

Immediately, I was convicted of my doubt. This small bird flew bravely without a care in the world. Here I was full of worry about driving in these conditions. A verse immediately came to mind. God cares for the birds. He feeds them. Worry-free they sing gaily of God’s goodness. How could I as a child of God doubt Him? Wouldn’t He care for me? Of course! He was more than able to stop the winds if I’d ask Him. My attitude changed as I drove down the highway. A new confidence filled my heart. God promises to care for me even more than He does for the birds. So, there is no need to fret or worry.

Be encouraged!!

Scripture References: Matthew 6:26-27 “Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?”

Isaiah 31:5 “Like birds flying about, So will the Lord of hosts defend Jerusalem. Defending, He will also deliver it; Passing over, He will preserve it.”
