The Last Plague

As a child, I loved watching The Ten Commandments with Charlton Heston. It usually came on the Sunday at the end of our spring break. My parents would allow us to stay up and watch it. Since this was our last night of freedom before returning to school on Monday, I would watch it despite the movie lasting hours. The part that I always hated was the scene showing the last plague. It was depicted as this ghastly smoke that crept through the town killing people. There were high pitched screams and moans as death surrounded the Israelites. Being firstborn myself, this was an eerie sight. Even after The Prince of Egypt came out on video, this part still remains my least favorite.

This Sunday, my pastor spoke on the power of the blood. He referenced this plague in his message. The children of Israel were instructed to apply the blood of a lamb to the posts of their doors. This was not just any other lamb though. It must be male and without spot or blemish. The sacrificial lamb’s blood served as a marker for the children of Israel causing the destroyer to pass over them. Since I’m a visual person, I decided to watch The Prince of Egypt last night. In seeing the last plague on the screen, I got chills. This time, it was not feelings of fear. As the smoke avoided the doors marked with the blood, I felt like cheering for it could NOT enter them. This is such a beautiful example for us. The coronavirus is running rampant throughout the nation, but God has “put a difference” between His people and everyone else. The difference is the blood of Jesus which has been applied to our lives. This blood flows WITHIN us. Because of the price that Jesus paid on the cross, we can live without fear knowing that we are protected from any plague.

So, if the devil tries to attack your mind with fear just remember God’s promises. He promises to take sickness and disease from among us. He surrounds us like a shield. Only with our eyes, we will see the reward of the wicked. A thousand may fall all around us, but it will NOT come near. The power of the blood of Jesus protects us from all harm. “Trust in the Blood!” Crisie Hutchings.

Scripture References: Exodus 11:7 “But against any of the children of Israel shall not a dog move his tongue, against man or beast: that ye may know how that the Lord doth put a difference between the Egyptians and Israel.”

Exodus 12: 5-7 “Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats: And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening. And they shall take of the blood and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it.”

Exodus 12: 13-14 “And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt. And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the Lord throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance forever.”
