Unsatisfied

So, I struggled with what to title this post. Is the correct word dissatisfied or unsatisfied? Are they both real words? Our culture has a tendency towards Ebonics or text slang such that phrases like irregardless or on accident are often debated for their correctness. In actuality, dissatisfied and unsatisfied are words. Unsatisfied refers to not being fulfilled or satisfied. Seems straightforward enough. Let’s look at an example. So, you’re waiting on the preparation of your favorite meal. The aroma of collard greens, macaroni and cheese, and sweet potatoes fill the kitchen. You sit down and devour the entire meal, but something is missing. Maybe it’s the absence of turkey or ham? Or maybe some key ingredients were left out leaving the meal tasting different? Though your stomach is full, you still feel unsatisfied.

How many of us feel this way with life? Many of us spend our lives in pursuit of a dream. We want the highest level of education and the perfect job. Once we have our ducks in a row, we search for the perfect spouse. Next comes the house with the white picket fence. We slow down long enough to pop out a kid or two. Then it’s back to the grind. After all, the house needs all the bells and whistles. Kids like their recreational sports and latest toys. Please don’t get me wrong! It is good to have goals and ambitions. There’s nothing wrong with wanting the best for your family. Yet have you ever asked yourself if there’s something more to this life?

As Christians, our focus should be upwards. We are to be about the Kingdom and not the business of establishing our own earthly empire. Before Jesus ascended into heaven, He charged the disciples with a command. They were to go into the world and preach the gospel. He also instructed them to make disciples. So, what does it look like to live with such a purpose? Does it mean quit your job and join missions? Not unless the Lord tells you. Instead, it means getting your focus off your life and looking at those around you. It could be as simple as inviting a neighbor to watch a church service in your home. Or maybe it’s helping a single mother with her yard maintenance. Jesus made disciples in the way that He loved people. He did life with them. He got in the “dirt” and invited them into relationship with Him. In doing so, people’s lives were changed, for they were open to receiving from Him.

I'm challenging you to live with that mission in mind. The burning in your heart is not an accident. There is more than this earthly life. God is reminding His children that time is winding down. We should be snatching souls out of the grips of hell. Don’t let fear stop you. Jesus assured the disciples that He would be with them. Guess what? He’s with you too! There’s a bonus. When we’re about God’s kingdom, He promises to provide for us. Let’s switch our focus today. Ask God to show you how you can impact your world.

Be encouraged! 😊

Scripture References: Matthew 28:19-20 (NLT) “Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Mark 16:15-18 (NLT) “And then he told them, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone. Anyone who believes and is baptized will be saved. But anyone who refuses to believe will be condemned. These miraculous signs will accompany those who believe: They will cast out demons in my name, and they will speak in new languages. They will be able to handle snakes with safety, and if they drink anything poisonous, it won’t hurt them. They will be able to place their hands on the sick, and they will be healed.”
