What Should I Do?

Life is full of questions. What college should I go to? Is this the best career path for me? Should I go out with this guy? How can you be sure that you’re making the right decision? As Christians, we have access to the cheat codes of life. The Holy Spirit within us serves as our personal guide. The trick is learning to draw out that wisdom so that we can apply it.

The book of Proverbs is full of nuggets on wisdom. Solomon uses masterful imagery to describe wisdom and the benefits of it. In chapter two, it says that we are to “search for wisdom as we would hidden treasures”. Now, we’ve all seen some sort of pirate movie. The protagonist obtains a map that leads him on a quest for buried treasure. The promise of abundant riches causes him to decipher clues and scour the land in search of it. We are to desire wisdom the way the pirates and his mates crave their reward. But how do we find it?

The passage continues saying wisdom comes from the Lord. Out of His mouth flows knowledge and understanding. Did you catch that? Out of His mouth flows words, The Word. The Bible is full of wisdom that can be applied to our daily lives. We must dig deep into it. As we search the scriptures with an open heart, God promises to reveal His wisdom. This wisdom brings clarity. We are now able to make the right choice.

So, when faced with difficult decisions, remember the answer is simple. If we want wisdom, then we must get into the Word of God. If we ask, then He will unlock the word to us. He will guide you down the right path.

Scripture References:

Proverbs 2:3-11 (NLT) “Cry out for insight and ask for understanding. Search for them as you would for silver; seek them like hidden treasures. Then you will understand what it means to fear the Lord, and you will gain knowledge of God. For the Lord grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding. He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest. He is a shield to those who walk with integrity. He guards the paths of the just and protects those who are faithful to him. Then you will understand what is right, just, and fair, and you will find the right way to go. For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will fill you with joy. Wise choices will watch over you. Understanding will keep you safe.”
